Practice Information

Monday - Friday Mornings daily

7 - 9 am Advanced Level
9 - 10 am Beginner Level


Tuesday and Thursdays Evening practices - reserved for working parents and children in camps

6:30 - 8 pm All Levels

* Although practices are offered daily this is a low key fun summer activity so please do not feel like your child must attend every practices - 3 times a week is what we recommend.

Equipment

Every member of the team will receive a GCC swim cap. We have a team suit which can be ordered through the designated Swim Team Parent TBA or Coach Carol

In addition, goggles, practice suits and other equipment can be purchased when the sizing takes place. While we encourage team members to have suits, caps it is not necessary, however, goggles are the only equipment that is mandatory for participation on the team. If you are interested or have any questions, please contact us by email above.

The GCC Swim Team is available to every member of the Groton Country Club and participant in the learn to swim program. We encourage everyone interested to participate in the program. It is a low key summer activity for anyone interested in competitive swimming. We will have several home and away meets as well as a Championship Meet. Cost for the Swim Team is $150 for members and $275 for non-members. We offer a $25.00 discount for each additional child within your family. Participation is open to both boys and girls starting at 4 or 5 and going up to the age of 18. Summer Aquatic League rules dictate that swimmers may not participate after they have graduated from high school, attended college, or are over the age of 18. July 1st is the cut off date to determine the age of every swimmer.

Competition:

Competition is in the following Age Group divisions for boys and girls: 6 & Under, 7 & 8, 9 & 10, 11 & 12, 13 & 14, 15 to 18.

Each age group has specific swimming events:

  • 6 and under: Swim half a pool (12&1/2 yards) of crawl & back-stroke.
  • 7 & 8: Swim one length of the pool (25 yards) in crawl, back-stroke, butterfly, and breaststroke.
  • 9 & 10: Swim one length of the pool (25yards) in crawl, back-stroke breaststroke, butterfly, and the individual medley ( four lengths of each stroke).
  • 11 & 12 and 13 & 14 and 15 to 18: Swim two lengths of the pool in all strokes and the individual medley.

Relay events are held for boys and girls in 2 divisions: 12 and Under and 13 to 18

Medley relay: Each swimmer does a different stroke.

Free relay: Everyone does the same stroke.

NOTE: No more than two swimmers from the oldest age group may be on the relay.Directions to Other Swim Clubs:

Cedardale Athletic Club, 931 Boston Road, Ward Hill, MA 01835 978-373-1596: Route 495 North to exit 48 (rte 125), straight through two sets of lights. Cedardale will be on the right. At third light (Family Bank) take a right onto Boston Road. Aquatic Center is on the left after miniature golf. Take first left into parking lot.

Wentworth By Sea, 603-433-5011: Take I-95 North to exit 3 in NH. Take a right at end of ramp onto Rt. 33. Continue 1.7 Miles until fork in the road, bear right. Continue until second traffic light, take right onto Rt. 1A (Sagamore Ave.). Proceed 1.5 miles over metal bridge. After bridge take your first left onto Rt. 1B (Wentworth Road). Club is 1/2 mile on the right. Pool is set back and is on the right as you enter the driveway.

Haverhill Country Club, 978-374-1146: Take 495 North to exit 51A, Route 125 (Haverhill). Go towards Haverhill 3/4 mile (approx.). Take a left onto Marsh Avenue (at Laundromat). Marsh changes to North Avenue at stop sign. Go straight, immediately after crossing over 495 take a right onto Brickett. Go all the way. Pool is on the right before tennis courts.
